How to delete all direct messages from Twitter automatically.

Feb 21, 2010

If you have many followers – or don’t keep up with your housekeeping – direct messages can build up in your inbox and it can be difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Twitter provides a tool in the form of lists to help with your timeline, but offers no help with direct messages.

I have here a JavaScript bookmarklet that will do the job for you. Simply drag it to your bookmark toolbar for future use.

Please note:
When you delete a message from your outbox, it will delete the entire thread including deleting it from the recipient’s inbox.

Drag this link to your bookmark toolbar: CaptainSEO’s DM Cleaner

Please note: Occasionally, the Twitter inbox will freeze when using this tool. if that does happen, don’t panic. It’s a glitch with Twitter that sometimes happens when deleting by hand too. Twitter is aware of this and the inbox will sort itself out in approximately 24 hours.
